Gardner-Webb is searching for its first Big South win of the season after dropping a tough 89-80 decision against Radford on Wednesday evening. The Runnin' Bulldogs held large leads against Charleston Southern (17) and Winthrop (20) and Radford (16) before eventually falling.
Freshman Spence Sims leads the Runnin' Bulldogs with 11.1 points per game while shooting better than 46% from distance. Sims has been named Big South Freshman of the Week on five occasions this season. Sophomores Jacob Hogarth and Jacob Hudson chip in 11.0 and 10.1 points per game, respectively, while Hogarth gathers a team-leading 7.2 boards per contest. Hogarth notched his fourth double-double of the season against the Highlanders, pouring in 18 points while grabbing 10 boards.
As a team, Gardner-Webb shoots 42% from the field and 31% from deep. The Dawgs average 69.9 points per game while allowing 88.6 each contest. GWU trails on the rebounding side of the ball by an average of 39.8-31.6.
Presbyterian comes into the contest with a 9-10 overall record, including 2-2 in conference play. The Blue Hose took down USC Upstate in their conference opener before dropping the next two contests at Radford and Longwood. However, PC bounced back with a thrilling 71-70 win over UNC Asheville on Wednesday, January 14.
Jonah Pierce leads Presbyterian in scoring and rebounds with 15.6 and 9.3, respectively, per contest while Carl Parrish chips in 13.7 points per game. No other Blue Hose averages double-digit scoring. Jaylen Peterson adds 7.4 rebounds per game.
The Blue Hose average 69.9 points per game while giving up 70 points each game. As a team, Presbyterian shoots at a clip of 46.4%, including 31.5% from three-point range. PC averages 35.3 rebounds and 13.5 assists per game. The turnover bug has plagued the Blue Hose in recent games, committing 13 miscues per contest.
Saturday's contest marks the 32nd all-time meeting between Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian with the Runnin' Bulldogs owning a 23-8 advantage in the series history. The two teams split last year's meetings with each earning a win on its home court.
