Runnin' Bulldogs Handed 13-4 Defeat at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Gardner-Webb (0-2) women's lacrosse was dealt a 13-4 loss at Campbell (1-1) on Wednesday afternoon inside Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Runnin' Bulldogs dominated the draw control position, taking 15-of-19 from Campbell but could muster only four goals out of 11 shots on goal. GWU finished the game with 18 total shots and 16 groundballs.

Defensively, Gardner-Webb had three players with two caused turnovers each while Addi Cook picked up a team-high three groundballs. Keeper Emma Anderson totaled nine saves in goal.

Campbell owned the opening frame of the contest, scoring all five goals of the quarter while building a comfortable lead early on despite Gardner-Webb winning all six draw controls of the period.

Following a stellar save by Anderson on a free position shot, the Runnin' Bulldogs took their next possession down the field before freshman midfielder Jazmyn Morris put the Dawgs on the board with her second score of the season.

The Fighting Camels extended the lead to 6-1, but McKensie Gehris added her first goal of the contest with five minutes remaining in the half. However, following a series of miscues by each team, Campbell's Paige White tacked on a late goal, sending the Camels into the break leading 7-2.

The third period mirrored the first as Campbell outscored the Runnin' Bulldogs by a total of 4-1 with the lone goal for Gardner-Webb coming off the stick of Morris, her second of the game and first career multi-goal game.

Campbell opened the scoring in the final stanza before Jonni Saluppo found Katie Westbrook for the Runnin' Bulldogs' fourth score of the game. McKenna Duncan of Campbell capped the scoring with a late goal while giving the Camels the 13-4 win.

Gardner-Webb returns to the field on Thursday, February 19, traveling to Kennesaw, Ga. to take on the Owls of Kennesaw State. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
