RADFORD, Va. — The Gardner-Webb University (3-26, 1-13) men's basketball team continued to battle down the stretch Wednesday night but came up just short in an 82–70 decision at Radford (15-13, 8-5) inside the Donald N. Dedmon Center.
Gardner-Webb opened the game with strong energy on both ends, jumping out to an early lead behind efficient shooting in the paint and aggressive defense. Sophomore guard Jacob Hudson led the early charge, scoring inside while helping the Runnin' Bulldogs build momentum in the opening minutes. The hosts answered with a strong shooting stretch late in the first half, using a run in the final eight minutes to take a 48–34 advantage into the break.
The Runnin' Bulldogs responded with a determined effort in the second half, shooting over 55 percent from the floor after halftime. Hudson finished with a team-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while Jacob Hogarth recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to anchor Gardner-Webb on the glass. Colin Hawkins added 10 points, and D.J. Jefferson and Curtis Williams each chipped in 10 off the bench to spark the offense.
Gardner-Webb consistently attacked the rim, scoring 42 points in the paint and converting 21 points off Radford turnovers. The Bulldogs also outscored the Highlanders 36–34 in the second half, trimming the deficit to as few as 12 points late before Radford closed the game at the free-throw line.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, February 26, playing host to UNC Asheville in the home finale. Tip time is slated for 7 p.m. inside Paul Porter Arena.
