MILL SPRING, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb track and field teams completed the 2026 Big South Indoor Championships on Saturday evening, with the women's team taking fourth overall and the men's team placing fifth
In addition to the strong team finish, Gardner-Webb posted a string of school records, individual records, and more during the final day of the weekend-long meet
Senior
Quentin Peterson had perhaps the best weekend of any Big South athlete, taking another conference title on Saturday. With a high mark of 20.10 meters, Peterson won the men's shot put event with a new school record and one of the top marks in the NCAA during indoor season
Sophomore
Magnum Chesnut was also impressive in the men's shot put, with his efforts good enough for fourth place and the eighth best mark in school history. Chesnut did so with a mark of 16.07 meters
Freshman Donovan Richardson ended an excellent first Big South Championships with a second place finish in men's triple jump. Richardson posted the second best mark in school history in the event, 14.93 meters
A fine indoor season continued on Saturday for
Teandra Clemons in women's triple jump. Clemons finished third place with a mark of 12.56 meters, good for the second best mark in GWU history
GWU added another podium with sophomore
Jonathan Timpson. Timpson, with a mark of 2.01 meters, was one of just three athletes to clear 2.0 meters even, and finished in third place
Senior
Jessica Perriello posted one of the best times in Gardner-Webb history in the women's 1-mile. Impressively finishing in under 5-minutes, Perriello scored the second best time in GWU history and a seventh place overall finish, doing so in 4:59.25
With a fourth place run in the women's 4x400 relay, Gardner-Webb added to its impressive weekend. Comery, Cross,
Laura Covarrubias, and
Hope Smith combined for a time of 3:55.01, placing among the top-ten times in the event ever for the Runnin' Bulldogs
For GWU,
Christian Rutland competed in the men's heptathalon, scoring 4520 points, Rutland's best came in the 60 meters portion of the event, where he finished near the top of the leaderboard in 7.41 seconds
