Runnin' Bulldogs Welcome Longwood for Big South Opener

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb baseball returns to the diamond on March 13-15 as it welcomes Longwood to Bill Masters Field for a three-game conference-opening showdown. The Runnin' Bulldogs are off to a 10-7 start in 2026.

Recently named Big South Player of the Week, senior left fielder Kelvin Agosto leads the Dawgs at the dish, raking at a .424 average, including a team-best 25 hits and 20 RBIs. Agosto led Gardner-Webb in a dominant 19-5 win over Oklahoma State after going 3-for-5 with a pair of homeruns, seven RBIs, and three runs scored. Senior catcher Zack Thompson continues his great start, currently sitting second on the team with a .354 average. Thompson has compiled 23 hits, including four doubles and a triple.

Redshirt junior Matt Ilgenfritz supplies the power for the Runnin' Bulldogs with five long balls and a team-leading 19 RBIs on the season while senior center fielder Merik Carter has added a solo shot into the mix.

Junior Oliver Ellison sits at 3-0 on the season after taking the win at OK State last Friday. Ellison went 5.0 innings while allowing two earned runs. For the season, Ellison has tossed a team-high 22.0 innings. Redshirt senior Reid Bertram, who will get the ball in game three, has compiled a record of 2-1 while throwing 21.1 innings.

Longwood is off to a 13-4 after taking down George Mason 11-1 during a midweek matchup. However, prior to the game with the Patriots, Longwood dropped two out of three games against Alabama State. The Lancers had a season-high 5-game win streak from February 28-March 6.

Jae'dan Carter leads the club with a .361 average at the plate whole Ben Pulliam is hitting at a .344 clip. Jon Howard and Jayson Nash are both batting .340. Carter sits atop the team with 22 hits, including four long balls while Howard has a team-high six homeruns to go along with 20 RBIs.

Longwood's pitching staff ranks first in the Big South and 12th in the nation in ERA (3.00). Anchoring the staff is Jaxon Lloyd who is 3-0 on the year with a 1.85 earned run average. In 24.1 innings, Lloyd has retired 34 batters via strikeout while allowing only six walks.

Gardner-Webb leads the all-time series over the Lancers by a tally of 22-11, including a three-game sweep in Farmville last season. The Runnin' Bulldogs have currently won the previous five meetings with Longwood.
