CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb baseball returns to action on Wednesday, March 18 with a midweek clash at Western Carolina.
The Runnin' Bulldogs and Catamounts met four times during the 2025 season with Western Carolina taking three-of-four. The lone win for GWU came on March 11 in Boiling Springs. The Dawgs walked away with an 11-4 victory.
Gardner-Webb looks to continue momentum gained after taking two out of three in the Big South Conference opener against Longwood this past weekend. The Lancers picked up game one, 3-1, before Gardner-Webb bounced back with wins of 7-2 and 9-4 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Reid Bertram continued his impressive start to the season, picking up his third win after going 7.0 innings while allowing five hits and two runs, striking out a season-high eight batters in the series finale. Newcomer Colby Putnam also dazzled on the mound for GWU, entering game two before proceeding to toss 5.2 innings of scoreless baseball.
Kelvin Agosto leads the club with a .417 average to go along with 21 RBIs. Agosto has also touched the plate 17 times. Zack Thompson is hitting .333 while Matt Ilgenfritz comes in at .316 and a club-best six homeruns and 22 RBIs. Ryan Kennell has contributed 18 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
Western is winners of three in a row after taking 3-of-4 from Morehead State. Overall, the Catamounts own a 14-7 record, including a 9-2 mark at home. Jackson Lyda leads WCU with a .348 batting average while Wyatt Stanley and Mason Holton each have 18 RBIs to lead the team. The Catamounts have hit 24 homers as a team with three players contributing four each.
Mason Snyder has been solid out of the pen for Western, compiling a 0.43 ERA over six appearances while earning a 3-0 record. Evan Meyers has started five games and holds a 2-1 overall record and 3.43 ERA.
