TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gardner-Webb (0-8) women's lacrosse wrapped up their midweek matchup on the road against Florida State on Wednesday, falling 16-2 despite a late push in the fourth quarter.
Florida State jumped out early, scoring six goals in the opening quarter and carrying that momentum throughout the first half to build an 8-0 advantage at the break. The Seminoles continued to apply pressure in the third, extending the lead before the Runnin' Bulldogs found their rhythm late in the contest.
Gardner-Webb broke through in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a goal from Abby Hardiman off an assist from Jonni Saluppo with just over seven minutes remaining. Moments later, Jazmyn Morris added an unassisted goal to give the Runnin' Bulldogs back-to-back scores and account for the team's offensive output.
Defensively, goalkeeper Emma Anderson made six saves in 45 minutes of action, while Annie Wise added three saves in relief during the final quarter.
The Runnin' Bulldogs recorded 12 shots on the day, with Morris leading the way with three attempts. Gardner-Webb also saw contributions across the field, including multiple ground balls from Anderson and strong draw control efforts from several players.
Gardner-Webb returns to the friendly confines of Spangler Stadium on Saturday, March 21, playing host to the 49ers of Charlotte. First draw control is slated for 1 p.m.
