Track and Field Competes in Busy Weekend Across North Carolina

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb track and field team was in action over the weekend, with the team competing in three separate events in North Carolina to open the outdoor season

49ER CLASSIC - CHARLOTTE
At the 49er Classic in Charlotte, freshman Hannah Hoffman was in action for GWU. Hoffman was fourth in women's hammer throw with a mark of 52.35 meters. Junior Zoie Johnson was sixth in the same event with a mark if 50.18 meters

Sophomore Jon Garrett was on the podium in the men's hammer throw, putting down a mark of 53.32 meters

Over in men's javelin, freshman Blaine Blose competed for the Dawgs. Blose placed a solid third place with a mark of 55.66 meters

Junior Isa van Sintemaartensdijk took part in the women's heptathlon for Gardner-Webb. She'd finish eighth overall with 4262 points, posting her best result in shot put where she put down a mark of 10.58 meters, the second best in the event

Senior Christian Rutland was part of the men's decathlon. Rutland best individual event was the dicus, where he scored a mark of 33.88 meters for third best. He was also third in javelin with a mark of 46.31. Overall, Rutlan placed 10th in the decathlon total

BOB DAVIDSON CHALLENGE - HIGH POINT
Gardner-Webb also sent a handful of athletes over to High Point, competing in the Bob Davidson Challenge. Those include freshman Ella Riggs who posted a mark of 11.78 in the women's shot put, and senior Adrionna Coleman who scored a mark of 41.85 in the women's discus

Also competing at HPU was sophomore Magnum Chesnut. Chesnut was eighth in the men's shot put, scoring a mark a 15.21 meters. Jacoby Johnson was ninth for GWU with a mark of 15.05 meters

Junior Devin Redd was in action for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the men's discus throw, recording a mark of 48.03 meters for a seventh place finish. Johnson also competed again, snagging 10th with a mark of 46.19 meters, while Garrett was 11th at 45.51 meters

BIG SOUTH SOCON CHALLENGE - ASHEVILLE
The majority of the track athletes for Gardner-Webb were in Asheville. These include sophomore Joshua Powell, who was third in the men's 100 meters in 10.59 seconds, and senior Traci Cross who set a personal record in the women's 100 meters, finishing sixth in 12.22 seconds. Powell also scored a win later in the weekend, taking the men's long jump with a personal-best 7.70 meters

Sophomore Hope Smith was excellent for GWU in the women's 400 meters, setting a new personal best with a second place run in 55.95 seconds. Sophomore Gabrielle Comery also came in under one minute, finishing seventh in 58.23 seconds

In the men's 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Micah Morales was third at 55.32 seconds and senior TJ Peebles was fourth in 56.18 seconds

Freshman Laura Covarrubias posted one of her best runs to date for GWU in the women's 400 meter hurdles. Covarrubias was third in 1:05.39

Sophomore Paige Boyd scored a runner-up finish in the women's high jump. Boyd recorded a mark of 1.65 meters for Gardner-Webb to take second place

Junior Teandra Clemons was also a runner-up, doing so in women's long jump. Clemons scored a mark of 6.00 meters flat to take second place

In men's triple jump, freshman Donovan Richardson was fourth with a mark of 14.41 meters for the Runnin' Bulldogs

Lastly, the Gardner-Webb women's 4x400 team. The quartet of Covarrubias, Smith, grad student Traci Cross and freshman Karsyn Huskey came third place in the event, combining for an excellent time of 3:55.07
