Late Inning Rally Comes Up Short as Runnin' Bulldogs Fall 10-6 Against A&T

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Gardner-Webb (13-12) battled back late but couldn't overcome an early deficit, falling 10–6 to North Carolina A&T (5-18) Tuesday evening at John Henry Moss Stadium.

The Runnin' Bulldogs found themselves in an early hole as A&T plated three runs in the opening inning and added two more in the third to take control. Despite multiple pitching changes, the Dawgs were unable to fully slow the Aggies' momentum, as A&T built a 10–1 lead through six innings.

Gardner-Webb began to chip away late while putting together solid and lengthy at-bats. The Runnin' Bulldogs got on the board in the third with an RBI from Allan Camarillo, then continued to apply pressure in the final three innings. Drew Ripepi delivered a key two-run hit, while Thad Ector added a two-RBI effort to spark the offense. The Runnin' Bulldogs scored five runs over the final three frames, including a two-run ninth, but ultimately ran out of time in the comeback bid.

Camarillo, Ilgenfritz, Ripepi, Guevara, and Ector each recorded hits for Gardner-Webb, with Ector and Ripepi driving in multiple runs. The Runnin' Bulldogs also showed patience at the plate, drawing walks and taking advantage of hit-by-pitches to create opportunities, but left 12 runners on base in the contest.

On the mound, Trey Graydon provided length out of the bullpen with three innings of work, while several relievers combined to limit further damage late and give the offense a chance to rally.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action on March 27-29 as they welcome High Point to John Henry Moss Stadium for a three-game conference set. First pitch Friday is set for 6 p.m.
