BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb baseball completes its four-game homestand this weekend, hosting the Panthers of High Point University in a Big South Conference clash at Bill Masters Field.
Gardner-Webb dropped an 10-6 decision against North Carolina A&T during a midweek contest on Tuesday, March 24.
Kelvin Agosto leads the Dawgs while sitting third in the league at the dish, raking at a .398 average, including a team-best 35 hits to go along with 22 RBIs. Drew Ripepi continues his impressive 2026 campaign, batting .367 in 22 games played, also ranking top 10 in the Big South. Matt Ilgenfritz provides the power for the Runnin' Bulldogs, mashing a conference-leading eight homeruns to go along with a team-best 26 RBIs.
Oliver Ellison and Reid Bertram have three wins each on the season to lead the Dawgs pitching staff. Ellison, the Dawgs' game one starter, has a team-high 32 strikeouts to only eight walks while throwing 33.0 innings.
High Point is off to a 15-9 start after taking down App State 3-2 during a midweek matchup. Overall, the Panthers have won five in a row, including a three-game sweep of Presbyterian in their last conference matchup.
Jack Clark leads the club with a .383 average at the plate while Willie Ponce is hitting at a .337 clip. Ponce sits atop the team with 31 hits, including five doubles while Jake McCarter has a team-high seven homeruns to go along with 21 RBIs.
Anchoring the HPU staff is Ty Brachbill who is 5-1 on the year with a 4.19 earned run average. In 24.1 innings, Brachbill has retired 31 batters via strikeout while allowing 11 walks.
High Point leads the all-time series over the Runnin' Bulldogs by a slim margin of 28-23, including winning four of the previous five contests.
