STILLWATER, Okla. — Gardner-Webb closed its weekend series at O'Brate Stadium on Sunday afternoon, falling to Oklahoma State, 16–1.
The Cowboys struck early, plating six runs in the bottom of the first inning and adding two more in the second to build an early advantage. Oklahoma State continued to extend the lead with a three-run fourth and a five-run fifth.
Gardner-Webb (10–6) collected five hits in the contest.
Merik Carter,
Ryan Kennell,
Diego Guevara, Miguel Lopez, and
Joe Stanzione each recorded a hit for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Kennell also added a double for Gardner-Webb.
The Runnin' Bulldogs broke through in the top of the seventh inning when
Joe Stanzione launched a solo home run to center field, his first of the season, to account for Gardner-Webb's run.
On the mound,
Reid Bertram made the start for the Runnin' Bulldogs, while
Colby Putnam,
Connor Busson, and
Colby Humphries also saw action out of the bullpen. Humphries tossed a scoreless inning with a strikeout to close the game for Gardner-Webb.
Gardner-Webb returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 10, traveling to Davidson for a mid-week clash with the Wildcats. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
