HICKORY, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb track and field team kept its strong outdoor season going on Friday night, with a great string of results on day one of the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne
GWU dominated the women's long jump, taking three of the top five spots. Junior
Teandra Clemons won with a mark of 6.09 meters, while freshman
Laura Covarrubias was second with 5.77 meters. Senior Jada Pttman placed fifth with a mark of 5.58 for Gardner-Webb. Senior Isa vanSintemaartensdijk was also 10th, scored at 5.41 meters
Covarrubias continued her day by also taking part in the women's 400 meter hurdles. The freshman recorded a time of 1:02.12, a whole two and a half seconds ahead of third place, finishing in second
VanSintemaartensdijk also competed in the women's shot put, taking home and eighth place finish with a mark of 11.02 meters. Freshman
Ella Riggs meanwhile posted one of the best performances of her still-young GWU career, finishing third with an outstanding mark of 12.29 meters
Sophomore
Joshua Powell continued an excellent individual season. Powell put down a mark of 7.43 meters in the men's long jump to nab second place
The Dawgs took two more top-fives in the men's shot put. As he's done before, senior
Quentin Peterson won the event- this time with a mark of 16.78 meters. GWU teammate sophomore Magnum Chestnut was fourth with a mark of 15.70 meters. The duo were two of five to clear 15.00 meters for the event
In the men's 3000 meter run, sophomore
Brendan Athy posted a fifth place finish with a time of 9:14.53 for Gardner-Webb. Junior Kaden Prat was ninth in 9:42.86 for the Dawgs
The men's 400 meter hurdles was the stage for junior
Micah Morales and senior
TJ Peebles. Morales posted a time of 55.08 seconds, good enough for a seventh place finish, while Peebles was 10th in 55.72 seconds
