Runnin' Bulldogs Set for Crucial Three Games at Radford

RADFORD, Va. – Gardner-Webb baseball hits the road for a pivotal Big South series at Radford on April 17-19. The Runnin' Bulldogs and Highlanders are currently tied in the conference standings with one month left in the regular season.

Gardner-Webb picked up an 11-1 win in seven innings on Tuesday evening against Queens University of Charlotte at John Henry Moss Stadium.

Kelvin Agosto leads the Dawgs while also sitting atop the league at the dish, raking at a .390 average, including a team-best 53 hits and 34 RBIs. Agosto has also cranked four long balls on the season. Ryan Kennell continues his impressive stretch at the plate, sitting second on the team with a .326 average. His most impressive game came at UNC Asheville where he went 4-of-6 from the plate with four runs driven in.

The Runnin' Bulldogs currently have five players hitting over .300 as they lead the Big South with a team average of .302. Matt Ilgenfritz has supplied the power for Gardner-Webb, belting a team-leading nine homeruns, which is fifth in the league. Merik Carter has added seven homers out of his leadoff position while drawing 36 walks.

Oliver Ellison leads the Dawgs with four wins on the season to lead the Dawgs pitching staff. Ellison, Gardner-Webb's game one starter, has a team-high 48 strikeouts to only 16 walks while throwing 55.0 innings.

Radford is 16-17 on the year with a 5-7 mark in league play. The Highlanders have dropped three of its last four games, including two-of-three at High Point in their last Big South series.

Junho Son leads Radford with a .324 batting average while tying Eli Hudgins with a team-high 35 hits. Devin Parks adds a .316 average, including a team-best four homeruns. The long ball has not been a friend of the Highlanders in 2026 as Radford is last in the conference with 14 home runs.

Anchoring the Radford pitching staff is Raymond Ladd, compiling a 4.24 earned run average in nine starts. Ladd has tossed a team-leading 34.0 innings. Corey Costello leads the club with 31 strikeouts in 33.1 innings pitched.

The series between Gardner-Webb and Radford is knotted at 23 games each. The Highlanders took 2-of-3 in Boiling Springs last season. Prior to that, Gardner-Webb reeled off six wins in seven attempts, dating back to the 2023 season.
