CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Freshman reliever Colby Putnam of the Gardner-Webb baseball team has been tabbed Big South Conference Freshman of the Week after a stellar performance over the past week.
Putnam earned a win at Radford after tossing 6.0 innings out of the bullpen while allowing no earned runs on six hits and striking out two. The freshman turned in the longest outing of his career, entering in the fourth inning and going the distance after the Highlanders had already plated eight runs. Radford managed two unearned runs in the fifth before Putnam went on to shut them out for the final four innings. He held 24 batters faced to a .273 opponent average while not issuing a single walk.
Putnam and the Runnin' Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, April 21 as they play host to Western Carolina in a non-conference mid-week clash at John Henry Moss Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
