Runnin' Bulldogs Drop 13-6 Contest Against High Point

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Gardner-Webb (2-14, 2-5) women's lacrosse battled early but ultimately fell to High Point (6-9, 6-1), 13–6, on Wednesday afternoon at Spangler Stadium.

The Runnin' Bulldogs showed fight throughout the contest, keeping things tight in the opening quarter before the Panthers gradually pulled away behind a 5-1 scoring third quarter.

High Point struck first midway through the opening period, but Gardner-Webb answered during a man-up opportunity when Addi Cook finished a chance off an assist from Abby Hardiman to tie the game at 1–1. After the Panthers added two goals to move ahead 3–1, Maddie Tredway responded for the Runnin' Bulldogs with a free-position strike late in the quarter, cutting the deficit to 3–2 heading into the second.

The Panthers created separation in the second quarter with a pair of quick goals early in the frame. Gardner-Webb answered midway through the period when Tredway scored her second of the afternoon, finishing a pass from Jazmyn Morris to trim the margin to 5–3. High Point, however, scored in the final minute of the half to take a 6–3 lead into the break.

Coming out of halftime, the Runnin' Bulldogs briefly swung momentum when Morris forced a turnover and converted it into a goal just over two minutes into the third quarter, pulling Gardner-Webb within two at 6–4. High Point quickly regained control, responding with five goals during the remainder of the quarter to extend the lead to 11–4.

Despite the deficit, Gardner-Webb continued to compete in the fourth quarter. Katie Westbrook found the net early in the period, and Emma Duchscherer added another late goal to round out the Dawgs' scoring.

Tredway led Gardner-Webb offensively with two goals, while Morris contributed a goal and an assist. Duchscherer, Cook, and Westbrook each added a goal apiece for the Bulldogs.

Defensively, goalkeeper Emma Anderson delivered a strong performance in net, recording 22 saves while facing 49 shots.

Gardner-Webb will host Furman on Saturday, April 25 in the regular season finale inside Spangler Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
