CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Starting pitcher Oliver Ellison of the Gardner-Webb baseball team picked up Big South Conference weekly honors after a masterful performance against league-leading Winthrop on Friday, April 24, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
Ellison delivered one of his best performances on a Runnin' Bulldog uniform, tossing a complete game shutout against the Eagles while scattering five hits and striking out five batters. The junior right-hander fired a total of 130 pitches and escaped several key jams, ultimately leading the Dawgs to a game one win.
The complete game was the first of Ellison's Gardner-Webb career, beating his previous best of 8.0 innings pitched, which was accomplished in back-to-back starts against UNC Asheville and Washington State.
