ROCK HILL, S.C. – Gardner-Webb women's lacrosse travels to Rock Hill on Saturday afternoon to face the Eagles of Winthrop in a Big South Conference showdown.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are still looking for their first win of the season after several close defeats, including a pair of one-goal games. However, Gardner-Webb has earned the lead in six of 10 games this season. In their last meeting, the Dawgs were defeated by Wofford18-7.
Freshman sensation Maddie Tredway leads the Runnin' Bulldogs with 20 goals, including a pair in the Dawgs' last outing, to go along with six assists. She leads the team with 64 total draw controls while ranking 3rd in the league with 6.40 draw controls per contest. Jazmyn Morris has chipped in 14 scores while Jules Brown has dished out a team-high nine assists to go along with seven goals. Addi Cook has contributed 10 goals and three assists for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
On the defensive side of the ball, Emma Anderson has played 567 minutes in goal while collecting 92 saves and a team-best 48 groundballs on the year. Anderson's 4.8 ground balls per game ranks second in the conference while her 9.2 saves per game also places her second in the Big South. Abby Consaul leads the club with 18 caused turnovers, sitting fourth in league play with 1.80 caused turnovers per game.
Winthrop comes into the contest with a 6-5 overall record and 1-2 in league play after defeating Radford 15-10 on Wednesday, April 1. The Eagles are led by Tori Iannotti's 30 goals while Emily Hollinger has chipped in 20 scores.
Winthrop leads the overall series with the Runnin' Bulldogs, 9-2, but the two teams have split the previous four matchups. The Eagles took seven straight from Gardner-Webb from 2015-2021.
