BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Returning to the friendly confines of John Henry Moss Stadium and Bill Masters Field, the Runnin' Bulldogs play host to the Phoenix of Elon in a midweek clash.
Dawgs on the Diamond: Kelvin Agosto continues to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs at the dish, batting a team-best .379 to go along with 29 RBIs and three homeruns. Agosto leads the Dawgs with 44 hits and is third with 26 runs scored.
Following a solid three-game set at UNC Asheville, Ryan Kennell has boosted his batting average to a team second-best .331. During the series with the Bulldogs, Kennell compiled six hits to go along with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Matt Ilgenfritz has supplied the power for the Dawgs, blasting a team-leading nine homeruns to go along with a .317 average and 31 RBIs. Ilgenfritz sits in second on the club with 27 runs scored and first in doubles with nine. Merik Carter connected on his fifth homerun of the season in a game one win over UNC Asheville. From the leadoff spot, Carter has coaxed a conference-best 35 walks.
Oliver Ellison leads the Runnin' Bulldogs with four wins, throwing a team-high 47.0 innings while striking out 42 batters. Matt Stuart turned in the best performance this season in his last outing, tossing a 9-inning complete game against UNC Asheville, allowing only two hits.
Series with the Phoenix: Tuesday's game marks the 4th game in the series between Gardner-Webb and Elon despite being separated by only 150 miles. The Phoenix hold a 2-1 advantage in the series, but the Runnin' Bulldogs took the last meeting between the teams, a 12-2 win at Elon on April 19, 2023.
Scouting North Carolina A&T: The Phoenix are 13-18 overall but have won 3-of-4, including a series win over North Carolina A&T in their last series.
Elon is led by Jackson Alford's .327 batting average, the only Phoenix hitting over .300 on the year. Alford leads the club with 30 hits while Brian DuRoff is hitting at a .294 clip to go along with a team-best 25 RBIs while also launching a team-leading three homeruns. The Phoenix pitching staff has a combined ERA of 5.48 in 269.1 innings pitched.
