BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (25-30, 10-14) baseball team closed out the 2026 season with a dominant 9-2 win over Presbyterian (12-44, 8-16) on Saturday afternoon at John Henry Moss Stadium and Bill Masters Field.
Redshirt senior Kelvin Agosto led the charge for the Runnin' Bulldogs, collecting two hits while driving in three and scoring a run. Senior Merik Carter also ended his GWU career with a 2-for-5 effort at the dish while adding a pair of runs and RBIs. Senior Zack Thompson contributed two RBIs.
Matt Stuart picked up the win after throwing 5.0 innings, allowing two runs while scattering eight hits and striking out two. Once again, the bullpen was solid for the Runnin' Bulldogs as Josh Gentile, Colby Humphries, Devin Pressley, and Jack Iannibelli combined to the final four innings while not allowing a run. Humphries we 2.0 innings with three strikeouts.
After two scoreless innings to start the game, Gardner-Webb broke through in a decisive third inning, plating five runs on four hits. Thad Ector ignited the frame with a one-out walk while Agosto and Ryan Kennell added RBI singles. Thompson capped the scoring with a two-RBI hit through the left side, staging the Dawgs to a 5-0 advantage.
Carter added another run for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the fourth with a solo shot to right center, his team-leading 11th long ball of the season.
Presbyterian chipped away at the lead in the top of the fifth following a two-run home run off the bat of Amman Dewberry, but GWU came right back in the bottom of the frame with three more runs of its own, the big blow coming from a double by Agosto that plated two runs.
From that point, the game was all academic as the Runnin' Bulldogs relievers shutdown Presbyterian to secure the 9-2 win in the season finale.
