About the Gardner-Webb Men's Basketball Developmental Team
The Developmental Team at Gardner-Webb University is an opportunity to continue to play basketball after high school at the college level. GWU started the Developmental Team in 2019 and recently completed the team's fifth season. While no scholarship money or stipends are awarded to the team, meaning players cover all costs on their own as a normal student would, the Runnin' Bulldogs are one of just a few Division I programs in the country to offer a Developmental Team. The Developmental Team plays a tough schedule of games that includes, but is not limited to: Junior Colleges, Division I, II & III developmental/JV programs, and Elite Prep Schools.
Also, as a Gardner-Webb Developmental Team player, you will have the opportunity to earn a potential walk-on position with Gardner-Webb University's Division I team. In the past four years, the men's basketball coaching staff has promoted four players to become a part of the Division I team.
Kennedy Kincaid was the first Developmental Team player that was promoted. Kennedy is from Marion, N.C. where he played his high school basketball at nearby McDowell County High School before transferring to Moravian Prep to finish his high school career. After high school, he committed to Gardner-Webb to play on the Developmental Team, where after just two months enrolled at GWU, he was promoted to the 'Dogs Division I squad. Kincaid played in eight games and has helped the team win a Big South Championship and make an appearance in the NCAA's March Madness in 2019.
Delis Boggs then became the second Developmental Team player to be promoted to the Division I Team. Delis is from Greenville, S.C. where he played high school basketball at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. After high school, Boggs committed to Gardner-Webb to play on the Developmental Team, and after just one year of being enrolled, was also promoted to GWU's Division I team. He ultimately made a big impact on the success of the Division I Runnin' Bulldogs team that went on to notch a third-place finish in the Big South Conference.
