Gardner-Webb Releases 2007-2008 Schedule
June 25, 2007 | Women's Basketball
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. The Gardner-Webb athletics department, along with head women's basketball coach Rick Reeves, has announced the schedule for the 2007-2008 season.
After finishing the 2006-2007 campaign with 14 wins, 10 of which came in A-Sun play, against the best competition in the country, Reeves and his staff have again compiled a daunting test for the young Bulldogs.
GWU opens the season at home with Montreat on Nov. 10. Last year, the Bulldogs downed Montreat by 25 points. However, the schedule quickly gets more difficult as GWU will just have a couple of days to prepare for BIG EAST foe Georgetown. The Bulldogs and Hoyas will tip-off at 6 p.m. on Nov. 13.
Their first road trip of the season comes at nearby UNC-Asheville. However, the Bulldogs are one of four teams to play at the UNC-Asheville classic. GWU will take on Davidson on Nov. 16 and Georgia State on Nov. 17.
The Bulldogs will then host two more games the following week. GWU will welcome Appalachian State to town on Nov. 20 before playing IUPUI in Paul Porter Arena on Nov. 24.
GWU will continue its non-conference play away from home the week after Thanksgiving. The Bulldogs travel to Orangeburg, S.C., to take on South Carolina State on Nov. 27 before flying to Ithaca, N.Y. for the Cornell Tournament that spans Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. There, GWU will take on Bowling Green. The Bulldogs' second opponent has yet to be determined.
Reeves' team plays at home just twice more before the holiday break. GWU will look to exact revenge on neighboring Wofford on Dec. 4 after falling to the Terriers to open the 2006-07 season. On Dec. 17, Paul Porter Arena could be packed as the game will be the battle of the bulldogs GWU vs. UNC-Asheville.
The Bulldogs will then make the five-hour drive to Farmville, Va., to take on Longwood on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.
Two weeks will go by before GWU will take the court again for a game. The first of three straight home games will come against the Panthers of High Point on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m.
The last two games of the home stand mark the beginning of the Bulldogs' last season in the A-Sun. On Jan. 5 at 5:30 p.m., GWU will host Lipscomb. Two days later, the Bulldogs and Bruins of Belmont square off at 8 p.m.
GWU hits the road for three consecutive away games. The first will be at Johnson City, Tenn., against ETSU on Jan. 12. The middle game of the trip comes against USC-Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C., on Jan. 14. Five days later, the Bulldogs will take on Campbell for the first time of the year. GWU ended the Camels' attempt at a conference title last season in the opening round of the A-Sun Tournament.
Florida Gulf Coast, in its first year in the league, comes to Boiling Springs on Jan. 26, just two days ahead of Stetson.
In February, the Bulldogs head to sunny Jacksonville, Fla., beginning with a game against Jacksonville on Feb. 2. Forty-eight hours later, GWU and the Ospreys of North Florida will square off. The third game of the road trip will come at Kennesaw State on Feb. 9.
The Bulldogs and Bears of Mercer meet for the only time of the season in Paul Porter Arena on Feb. 11. On Feb. 16, Campbell comes to town for a 5:30 showdown. The game is part of a doubleheader.
A week later, Bulldog fans can again partake in another doubleheader as GWU will host USC-Upstate at 5:30 p.m. The GWU seniors will take the floor for their last home game on Feb. 25 against ETSU at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs finish the regular season in Nashville, Tenn. GWU will take on Lipscomb on Feb. 28 before facing Belmont on March 1.
Playing in its last season in the A-Sun, the Bulldogs will
attempt to win the conference title at the league's tournament from
March 5-8 and secure its first-ever berth in the NCAA
Tournament.
