QUOTES
On The Fast Start In Lynchburg
"We've been looking for some things to break our way and early on
they did. We were able to get out to a lead in a hostile
environment. We executed well and got off to a fast start."
One The Second Half at Liberty
"We didn't finish. I saw the momentum changing, but we're a work in
progress. I think we're getting better every day. [Liberty] is used
to being in that situation and pulled it out. The long drives hurt
us in the second half. They had a 99-yard drive, an 80-yard drive.
We can't let people have those long drives. It's about mental
toughness. Somebody has to step up when it's third-and-seven and
make a play so the defense gets off the field."
On The Team's Success Passing the Football at
LU
"We knew we would be facing a defense that wanted to get downhill
and stop the run, so we had to take advantage of some match ups
down the field if we were going to move the football. Our guys made
plays in the passing game and we stuck with it. When we got in the
red zone, we ran it pretty well. Four touchdowns on the ground down
there, with three different guys [Juanne Blount, J.J. Hubbard and
Kenny Little]."
On MidAmerica Nazarene
"They have a good quarterback [Sean Ransburg]. He has the mobility
to give you trouble if you don't play sound and he has a good arm.
He's a weapon they ride a lot. They're 4-1 coming in so they're
confident. We have to be focused this weekend. We're not in a
position to take anything for granted."
NOTES
Lucas Beatty's first half performance at Liberty (16/17 passing,
301 yards, TD) marked the highest completion percentage for one
half in Gardner-Webb history (94.1%) for at least 15 attempts.
Former Big South Offensive Player of the Year Jeremy Martin
completed 13-of-15 passes in the first half against ETSU on
September 14, 2002.
Gardner-Webb had nearly as many explosive plays on Saturday at Liberty (7) as it had in the previous four games combined.
The Runnin' Bulldogs haven't met an NAIA foe in Spangler Stadium since it hosted Southern Virginia in 2009. GWU is 4-0 against NAIA members since moving to Division I prior to the 2000 season.
Kenny Cook and Carlton Heard became the first receiving duo to top the 100-yard mark in the same game since James Perry III and Dobson Collins did so against Coastal Carolina in 2008. With a pair of Liberty receivers also going over 100 yards, the Big South saw its first four-receiver combo reach the century mark in the same game.
