BOILING SPRINGS - Gardner-Webb head coach Ron
Dickerson, Jr., met with members of the media and Bulldog Club
Wednesday for his weekly press luncheon at the Bulldog Quik Snak on
Main Street.
On The Most Important Thing Taken From Last Week's
Game
"We won. That was important. We've been preaching to the guys to
keep playing when things don't look the best, when things aren't
going our way. They haven't quit all year, but at some point you've
got to get a 'W' in the column to help your confidence."
On Tanner
Burch
"Tanner is a guy who saw some spot duty last year, watched and
learned mostly, and he's now taking advantage of his opportunity to
shine. He's going to be around the football. He plays very hard and
studies the game. Tanner is a big, physical guy, but he's a smart
football player who studies the game. He's playing at a high
level."
On Stony Brook
"They've got great talent, they're physical and they play very
hard. A well coached team. [Miguel] Maysonet might be the best back
in the country, he's averaging over 150 yards per game. They aren't
on dimensional, they can beat you down the field throwing the ball
and have done that well this year. They're still very physical on
defense all over the field."
NOTES
* In the past two seasons, Gardner-Webb has coughed up 13 combined
turnovers that led directly to 59 points for Stony Brook. The
Seawolves have scored three non-offensive touchdowns in those two
games.
*
Gardner-Webb is the only team to deliver Stony Brook a Big South
loss at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, coming from behind to top the
Seawolves 34-33 on Nov. 1, 2008 behind 392 yards passing from Devin
Campbell - and big receiving games from Dobson Collins and James
Perry III.
* GWU
rushed for 248 yards against Stony Brook last season, the
second-most allowed by SBU during the regular season.
* Four
Gardner-Webb players spent their final prep seasons in the Empire
State - quarterback/receiver Jordan
Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y. / New Utrecht HS), safety Lonnie
Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y. / Milford Academy), defensive tackle Matt

Demilio (Severna Park, Md. / Milford Academy).
