Volleyball Splits Saturday Action at Lehigh Steel Classic

BETHLEHAM, PA - The Gardner-Webb volleyball team split Saturday action at the Lehigh Steel Classic, defeating Morgan State 3-0 in the morning and losing to Cleveland State 3-0 in the afternoon
In the first game of the day, the Runnin' Bulldogs defeated Morgam State 3-0. After winning the first set 25-23, the Dawgs squeaked out a 25-21 win in the second before a dominant 25-10 win in the third to complete the match.
In the win over Morgan State, Gardner-Webb got contributions from all down the lineup. Nine different players recorded a kill for GWU, including sophomore Sarina Galyean with a team-best nine, freshman Peyton Slone with eight for her best game for GWU so far, and redshirt sophomore Alexis Maesch with seven kills
On offense, the Runnin' Bulldogs were also led by senior Milla Lugo who hit an outstanding .714 for the game, connecting on five kills in seven attempts. She also added a pair of solo blocks. Junior Oliva Lefebvre also added 12 assists for the game, followed by sophomore Ivey Lucas with 11, the two Gardner-Webb players to notch double digit assists
In the afternoon game against Cleveland State, the Dawgs fell 3-0 after losing the first set 25-19, the second by a score of 25-17, and the third by a narrow 25-21 score
Once again, GWU was led by Slone who finished an impressive individual day with seven kills at a .235 hitting percentage. Lugo was also involved with six kills to the tune of another outstanding .667 hitting percentage, at six kills on nine attempts.
Lefebvre and Lucas once again set up the most chances for Gardner-Webb despite the loss, with each setter recording 12 assists, combining for 24 of the 27 by the Runnin' Bulldogs in the game.
