GWU Battles to 1-1 Draw at VMI

LEXINGTON, VA - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team continued its decent start to the 2026 season on Sunday afternoon, battling to a 1-1 draw at VMI
The Runnin' Bulldogs started quick on Sunday afternoon, finding the game's first goal inside half an hour. In the 24th minute, sophomore Ila Allred scored off the feed from senior Mackenzie Farr to put GWU in front 1-0
That led held all the way until the 62nd minute, when a well worked shot from VMI snuck into the back of the net to level the score at 1-1
Sunday's match was one of the more competitive ones for GWU early in the season, with the Dawgs finishing with an 18-11 advantage in total shots and a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal
Despite the high overall shot totals, Gardner-Webb wasn't put under too much pressure from the VMI attack, with freshman goalkeeper Abril Montiel only having to make two saves for the afternoon
Of note, sophomore's Julia McBride and Sarah Birchall led Gardner-Webb with three shots each. Allred, the goal-scorer, found the back of the net from off the bench where she played 42 minutes in the contest
