Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's men's tennis program, in
conjunction with Gardner-Webb Athletics, is thrilled to announced
the signing of Benjamin Kaszás, Nicholas Lofrumento, and
A.J. Stillwell, who will begin competing for the Runnin' Bulldogs
in 2013.
This season, Kaszás will add valuable depth for the
Runnin' Bulldogs during the upcoming portion of their 2012-13 slate
of matches, beginning January 19, 2013 at North Carolina. Both
Lofrumento and Stillwell have been added for the 2013-14 season,
giving GWU a bright future going forward.
Kaszás comes to Gardner-Webb from Budapest, Hungary. He
ranked second in Hungary among junior players, and has been a
member of the Hungarian National Junior team since 2007. He was
rewarded for a stellar playing career by being ranked 59th in the
16's in Europe. Kaszás looks to add valuable toughness to
the Gardner-Webb men's tennis fold.
"Benjamin is going to help us immediately coming into the
upcoming season," said head men's tennis coach Mike Griffith. "He
is an excellent doubles player who has tons of international
experience."
Lofrumento (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) will compete for the Runnin'
Bulldogs beginning in August 2013. Rated as a two-star recruit by
tennisrecruiting.net, Lofrumento earned a spot on the First Team
All-Conference for a stellar 2012 season. As part of his successful
2012 campaign for Cocoa Beach High School, Lofrumento reached the
quarterfinals in singles play at the Florida 2A High School state
tournament.
"Nick will add toughness (to our team) and is team-oriented,"
said coach Griffith. "He has multiple years experience playing for
his high school team, and his experience will be huge for us."
Stillwell is a native of Wilmington, N.C. The Laney High School
product led his team to a quarterfinals appearance at the North
Carolina 4A High School state tournament in 2012 after winning the
East Regional singles crown in 2012. Rated as a three-star recruit
by tennisrecruiting.net, Stillwell earned a No. 20 ranking in the
state of North Carolina while at Laney.
"Like Nick and Benjamin, A.J. adds valuable experience playing
for his high school team, which will help us out tremendously in
the future," said Griffith.
"All of these players have multiple years experience playing for
their national team or high school teams and thus this experience
will be huge for us now, and in the future," Griffith continued.
"Tennis, in juniors, is such an individual sport, but in college it
is so team-driven. These players know what it means to play for a
team and support their teammates.
"They will be a great addition to GWU and our tennis team. We
cannot wait to start the season at No. 16 UNC on Jan. 19,
2013."
