Tarboro, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's Hudson twins of
Dominique and Monique were both named to the list of "100 To
Remember: Female Athletes" list as part of the celebration of the
centennial of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association
(NCHSAA), it was announced this week.
The list of "100 To Remember: Female Athletes" highlights one
hundred of the top female athletes in NCHSAA history. A special
committee, including school administrators and coaches from across
the state as well as sports media, put together the list in a
series of meetings.
Recognized for their high school accomplishments, Dominique and
Monique were sensational on the court at SouthWest Edgecome, where
Dominique was an outstanding point guard and Monique was the
prolific scorer of the two during their high school careers.
Monique scored 1,760 points, while Dominique added 1,178 points
during their careers. The tandem finished their careers with a
94-18 overall record and won the 2005 2-A State Championship. They
also guided their team to become the 3-A runner-ups in 2006.
Dominique's No. 12 jersey and Monique's No. 15 jersey have both
been retired at SWE.
The Gardner-Webb alumnus not only shattered records during their
four years on the women's basketball team, but the duo of Dominique
and Monique also led the Runnin' Bulldogs to its first-ever NCAA
Division I Championship berth in 2010-11 and its first-ever WNIT
berth in 2009-10.
Dominique, now an assistant coach on the GWU women's' basketball
staff, was a two-time Big South All-Conference First-Team
selection, a the three-time Big South All-Tournament honoree and
was tabbed the 2011 Big South Women's Basketball Championship
Tournament Most Valuable Player during her time at GWU. Dominique
finished her career as GWU's Division I all-time leading scorer
with 1,407 career points, which also ranks fifth overall all-time
in GWU history. Hudson also finished her career as GWU's DI career
assists leader with 579 career assists and steals leader with 244
career thefts. She ranks first in GWU's DI career record book in
games played (129), minutes played (3,545) and free throws made
(419) and second in GWU DI history in most games started (102),
third in field goals made (443) and fifth in three-pointers made
(102).
Monique was named to the 2010-11 Big South All-Conference
Second-Team and a spot on the Big South All-Tournament Team in her
final season as a Runnin' Bulldog. The 2007-08 Atlantic Sun
Freshman of the Year finished her career with 1,147 points, which
ranks 14th all-time in GWU women's basketball history and fifth in
GWU's Division I history, was third in GWU's DI history in steals
(210) and three-pointers made (115) and also ranks fifth in GWU's
DI career record book in free throws made (240).
During the 2013 year in which the 100th anniversary is
celebrated by the NCHSAA, four "100 To Remember" lists will be
released. The first involved administrators, including athletic
directors, principals, superintendents or others involved with the
administration of athletics at a local or statewide level. The
second list was the coaches, followed by female athletes. The male
athletes list will be the final one released.
