
Women's Basketball Leads Wire-To-Wire In Victory Over Tennessee Temple

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.-Aunesha Williams and Kiera Currie each scored 10 points and Jessica Heilig grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds as the Gardner-Webb women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 68-48 victory over Tennessee Temple (4-7) on Thursday evening in Paul Porter Arena.
The victory for the Runnin' Bulldogs (4-6) snaps a three-game losing streak and improves their home record to 3-1 on the season.
This Runnin' Bulldogs crashed the boards all game long, outrebounding the Crusaders by a 69-28, grabbing 13 offensive boards and converting the rebounds into 25 second chance points compared to just three for Tennessee Temple.
For only the second time this season, Gardner-Webb did hit a three-pointer going 0-11 from beyond the three-point arc, but continued to get the ball inside to its front court players scoring 56 of its 68 points in the paint.
Tierra Huntsman gave the Runnin' Bulldogs a lift off the bench scoring 8 points and hauling down 6 rebounds for her first points of the season, as Gardner-Webb's bench scored 44 points to just 19 for TTU.
Midway through the first half, Williams scored back-to-back layups to give GWU a 12 point lead at 21-9 with 8:34 left in the first half. Huntsman scored her fourth point of the first half to extend the GWU to 15, its largest lead of the first half, 31-16, as the Runnin' Bulldogs would take a 33-20 lead into the halftime intermission.
Gardner-Webb continued to lead the entire second half extending its advantage to as much as 25 (62-37) with 4:56 remaining in the game as it would go on for the 68-48 victory.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action on Saturday for their last game before the Christmas break as they travel to Ga.
