
Gardner-Webb Swimming Heads To USA Winter Nationals

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb University men's and women's swim team will compete against some of the nation's best swimmers this weekend when it heads to the USA Swimming Winter Nationals Dec. 4-6 at the Greensboro Aquatics Compex in Greensboro, N.C.The Runnin' Bulldogs had 11 swimmers qualify for this weekend's meet-their largest group to ever attend the meet.
The Winter Nationals, will conclude the 2014 portion of the GWU swim schedule and will be a good test for the Runnin' Bulldogs as they will be competing against some of the elite swimming competition in the world.
""11 qualifiers for nationals is the largest group we have ever had attend this meet," commented Gardner-Webb head coach Mike Simpson. "Our swimmers are excited to compete against some of the world's best, including: world record holder Katie Ledecky, Olympic champion Nathan Adrian and Olympian Micah Lawrence."
The eleven swimmers that will represent GWU at this weekend are: Lili Tóth (200 im,100 breast, 200 breast), Charity Byrum (100 breast), Mary O'Doherty (100 butterfly), Giorgie Graves (100 butterfly), and Lauren Oglesby (1650 free), and participating for the GWU men's squad is: Nathan Lile (100 free, 200 free,100 fly), Brandon Searle (100 fly), Connor Bos (100 back), Tyler Gomez (100 fly), John Baker (100 back), and Garrett Simpson (100 back).
The format for this weekend's meet will be very similar to the Wingate Fall Frenzy Invitational with the preliminary swims in the morning and the top 16 swimmers in the preliminaries will compete swim in the finals. The prelims events are scheduled to start at 9:00 am, and the finals at 5:00 p.m.
