Runnin' Bulldogs Post Several Personal Bests at Adidas Cross Country Challenge

CARY, N.C. --- The Gardner-Webb cross country team placed seventh in the men's race and eighth in the women's at the adidas Cross Country Challenge, hosted by North Carolina State University, on Friday evening, as six Runnin' Bulldogs established a new personal best.
The men's squad placed seventh in the team competition with 179 points, one shy of a tie with North Carolina Central for sixth, while the women's team finished eighth with 217 points.
Claire Cates (Hillsborough, N.C.) ran a personal-best 5k time of 19:07.4 to finish 31st among scoring runners, while Gabrielle Cortese (Franklin Springs, Ga.) followed close behind in 32nd with a time of 19:17.3. Jenna Ford (Wasilla, Alaska) placed 35th with a mark of 19:44.0.
Rachel White (King, N.C.) added a new personal-best of her own, finishing 59th with a time of 21:30.6, as Sydney Davis (Granite Falls, N.C.) came in 60th with a mark of 21:34.5. Michaela Williams (Nashville, N.C.) posted a personal best time of 21:38.3 to finish 63rd, while Lauren Kilpatrick (Jacksonville, Fla.) placed 74th with a mark of 22:03.0.
Christopher Lile (Waynesboro, N.C.) led the way for the men's team, finishing 25th with a time of 16:47.8, as Josh Parks (Forest City, N.C.) placed 33rd with a personal-best mark of 17:21.7. Keaton Poole (Spindale, N.C.) posted a personal best as well, crossing the line in 17:25.6 to finish 35th, while Joshua Valdez (Haw River, N.C.) placed 42nd with a mark of 18:34.9.
Ssenior Matthew Cook (Connelly Springs, N.C.) ran a personal-best 18:50.8, finishing 44th, as James Haynes (Charlotte, N.C.) and Marcquel Woodard (Gainesville, Ga.) placed 49th and 53rd with times of 19:33.3 and 19:56.5, respectively.
Gardner-Webb returns to the course on Saturday, October 3 at the USC Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. The day is slated to begin at 9:00 am.
