CLEMSON, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs men's soccer team traveled to Clemson this afternoon to square off with the No. 11 Tigers. Tonight's match is Gardner-Webb's second time the Runnin' Bulldogs have squared off with a ranked opponent. On Sept. 23, Gardner-Webb topped the then ranked No. 8 Furman Paladins by a score of 5-4 in overtime on the road. However, tonight the 'Dawgs fell to Clemson by a score of 5-0, behind three goals from Jason Wright.
Clemson opened the scoring early in the match as Shannon Oliver found the back of the net at the 9:25 mark in the first period. Grayson Raynor was credited with the assist as Oliver netted his third goal of the season.
Several minutes later, at the 15:08 mark into the first period, Jason Wright began his big night offensively for the Tigers netting his first of three goals in the match.
As the scoreboard mirrored 2-0 at half, the Tigers again added another tally to their score as Jason Wright scored his second goal of the night, on a give-and-go into the box on a shot from 16 yards out. Diego Campos earned the assist, putting Clemson up 3-0.
Eleven minutes later, in the second period, Clemson's Jason Wright notched his third goal of the night as he recorded a hat trick. Wright, again received the cross from Campos into the box from the right side and found the back of the net on a header from eight yards out.
Robby Jacobs of Clemson capped the scoring for the night in the 85
th minute as he recorded his first goal of the season on a through ball from Johnny Heckman from the left side, into the box and found the back of the net from 13 yards out.
Tonight's match is just the second time the 'Dawgs have been shut out as they have been strong offensively this season.
With a stingy Clemson defense, Gardner-Webb was limited to 4 shots, while failing to record a shot on goal.

Clemson conversely exploded on offense taking 34 shots, with 14 on goal. The Tigers also took 13 corner kicks in the match.
Gardner-Webb played two goalkeepers tonight, as Jacob Beyer saw 72 minutes in goal, and
William Liles recorded 17 of his own. The Gardner-Webb 'keepers made nine saves between the posts on the night.
Following tonight's match, the Runnin' Bulldogs fall to (5-4-1, 2-1-0 BSC), while Clemson climbs to 9-3. Gardner-Webb is back in action next as they travel to Radford for a conference match on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 6:00 PM.
