Runnin’ Bulldogs Fall To Charleston Southern, 3-1, Friday Night

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Charleston Southern on Friday evening in Big South Conference action. The Buccaneers took the opening set, 25-17, but the Runnin' Bulldogs would take the next set, 25-23. CSU would then take the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-21, to take the overall match win.
With the loss, Gardner-Webb falls to 7-14 overall and 1-7 in Big South action. Charleston Southern improves to 8-13 on the year and 3-4 in league play.
Gardner-Webb hit at a .148 percentage with 49 kills, while Charleston Southern attacked at a .211 rate with 57 kills.
Nicole Celarek led the Runnin' Bulldogs on the attack, racking up 14 kills on 29 attempts for a .276 hitting percentage. She also had 18 digs and one block on the evening. Keira Moore also reached double-digits on the attack for GWU, tallying 10 kills to go along with two blocks.
Kaeyln Dyson had four block assists to lead the team, while Emma Milstead had a team-high 22 digs. Amanda Sahm had a double-double with a team-high 25 assists and 14 digs.
Charleston Southern had three players have double-digits in kills, as Addison Kaderli and Kylie Klein each had 14 kills, and Kalysia Bates had 10 smashes. Bates also led the Bucs with three block assists on the evening. Madison Martin led the team with a match-high 28 digs and Rachel Smith had a match-high 47 assists.
The Runnin' Bulldogs hit the road for their next match on Tuesday, October 17 at High Point. The match is set for a 7:00 pm start time and can be seen on the Big South Network (www.bigsouthsports.com).
