High Point Tops Gardner-Webb 3-1

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team squared off with conference opponent, High Point Saturday afternoon. Behind two second period goals, the Panthers topped the Runnin' Bulldogs 3-1.
 
High Point took the lead early in the match as Johnathan Bolanos found the back of the net for the Panthers just four minutes into play. Bolanos goal was unassisted.
 
Gardner-Webb responded at the 39:54 mark, with a goal by Roman Eddleman as Severin Soerlie sent the cross finding Eddleman from eight yards out.
 
The scoring came to a stop until the 74th minute as Conner Cesar scored the go-ahead goal for HPU as he found the right corner of the net, unassisted. Cesar's goal put the Panthers on top 2-1 late in the match.
 
In the final minute of play, Jaime Vasconcellos added one more tally to the scoreboard for High Point as he found himself one-on-one, inside the box, and beat the Gardner-Webb keeper to his left.
 
The High Point offense outpaced Gardner-Webb posting 15 shots, with nine shots on goal. Justen Shear, Bana Ganidekam, and Johnathan Bolanos each recorded two shots on goal in the match.
 
Gardner-Webb took 11 shots in the match, but were limited to five shots on goal. Roman Eddleman was the lone Runnin' Bulldog with multiple (2) shots on goal in the match.
 
High Point was credited with eight corner kicks, while Gardner-Webb took three.
 
In goal for the Runnin' Bulldogs, Jacob Beyer recorded six saves, while conceding three goals. Keegan Meyer of HPU tallied four saves with one goal allowed.
 
Following today's match, Gardner-Webb falls to (6-6-1, 2-2-0 BSC), while High Point now stands at (6-5-3). Gardner-Webb is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 6:00 PM as they prepare to travel to Buies Creek to face off with Campbell University.
