BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team travelled to take on Big South Conference opponent Campbell University as they played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime.
Jack Hoey found the back of the net for the second time this season to open the scoring for the Runnin' Bulldogs after a scoreless first half, in the 55
th minute.
Roman Eddleman and
Oskar Wang were credited with the assist.
Late in the second period, at the 82:55 mark, Campbell evened the scoring at one as Gabe Cam Perrish's shot from 14 yards out ricocheted off the left post into the back of the net.
In an offense-friendly match, the Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 17 shots, with seven on goal.
Magnus Moldjord led the way for Gardner-Webb with four shots, followed by
Jack Hoey with three who was the lone goal scorer for the Runnin' Bulldogs tonight.
Severin Soerlie also tallied three shots, followed by
Oskar Wang and
David Koloko who each had two in the match.
The Camels recorded 20 shots with six on goal. JJ Donnelly lead the way for Campbell as he posted six shots, while just on was on goal. Gabe Perrish added two shots for Campbell while finding the back of the net to secure the draw.
Campbell was awarded 12 corners, while the Runnin' Bulldogs saw six. Each team struggled with fouls tonight as Campbell accounted for 21, as Gardner-Webb recorded 31 of their own.
Jacob Beyer was strong between the posts tonight for Gardner-Webb as he racked up five saves on 20 shots faced. Matthew Mozysnki of Campbell recorded six saves, allowing one goal on 17 shots faced.
Following tonight's match, Gardner-Webb now stands at (6-6-2, 2-2-1 BSC). Campbell owns a record of (8-6-3, 4-2-1 BSC). Gardner-Webb has two regular season matches remaining, which will both be played at Greene-Harbison Stadium on the campus of Gardner-Webb University.
The 'Dawgs return to action this Saturday as they are set to square off with Longwood University at 3:00 PM on Saturday, Oct. 28. The team will conclude their regular season play on Wednesday, Nov. 1 as they take on Winthrop University for Senior Day.
