BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team collected their fifth victory of the season Wednesday afternoon in a 3-0 shutout against Big South opponent UNC Asheville.
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened the scoring early in the match at the 9:09 mark as
Severin Soerlie netted his seventh goal of the season. Soerlie received the cross from
Marc-Kevin Schwenk from the left side of the pitch and scored from 10 yards out.
Roman Eddleman continued the 'Dawgs scoring efforts as he scored unassisted from 18 yards out, lofting his shot over the UNC Asheville goalkeeper. Eddleman's goal in the 44
th minute was his third of the season.
After 40 scoreless minutes, Ishmael Guerrero scored the final goal of the match at the 82:06 mark in the second period. Mark-Kevin Schwenk was credited with his second assist of the day as he found Guerrero who scored from nine yards out.
Gardner-Webb held the Bulldogs scoreless in a strong defensive effort. UNC Asheville tallied 16 shots, with seven different players recording one shot on goal in the match.
The Runnin' Bulldogs offensive efforts included 14 shots, with 11 on goal. Gardner-Webb saw a quality effort from multiple players this evening at Greene-Harbison Stadium. Four different Runnin' Bulldogs recorded multiple shots on goal, while Mark-Kevin Schwenk led the way with three.
Gardner-Webb goalkeeper, Jacob Beyer was strong between the posts as he notched his second shutout of the season, with six saves in 90 minutes of play.
Asheville goalkeeper, Nabil Milani made six saves, while conceding three Gardner-Webb goals.
With tonight's win, Gardner-Webb climbs to (5-3-1, 2-1 BSC) while UNC Asheville falls to (1-10) on the year. The 'Dawgs are back in action next as they travel to Clemson to face off with the Tigers on October 10 at 7:00 PM.
