Huskies Triumph Over Runnin' Bulldogs 3-1

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb fell to Houston Baptist by a score of 3-1 this afternoon at Greene-Harbison Stadium.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs looked sharp early in the first period as they dominated possession against the Huskies defense. However, Houston Baptist took control and opened the scoring in the 31st minute as Devon Grant put one in the back of the net on the assist from Dominck Faletto.
 
The Huskies offensive efforts persisted throughout the afternoon as they went on to score two more goals. Mark Johnson of Houston Baptist scored unassisted as a Huskie shot rebounded off Gardner-Webb goalkeeper Jake Beyer at the 49:04 mark in the first period.
 
Malik Key would cap the scoring for Houston Baptist in the 60th minute as he received the cross from Gianluca Natera and knocked it in through the Runnin' Bulldogs goalkeeper's legs as he drew Beyer out of the net.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs countered the Huskies offensive efforts with their lone goal of the match at the 79:35 mark late in the second period. Magnus Moldjord received the cross from Alain Delgado and knocked it in from five yards out.
 
The Gardner-Webb offense put up 13 shots in the match. Four of their shots were on goal. Eight different Runnin' Bulldogs recorded shots in the match. Magnus Moldjord was the only Gardner-Webb player to record multiple shots on goal with two. Houston Baptist was able to get off 14 shots, with 10 on goal.
 
Gardner-Webb goalkeeper Jake Beyer tallied five saves in 90 minutes of play. The Huskies goalkeeper Chance Pope recorded three saves in the match.
 
Gardner-Webb notched 11 corner kicks in the match, yet were unable to capitalize on any of them. Houston Baptist took just three corner kicks.
 
Gardner-Webb falls to 1-2-1 on the season after the loss to Houston Baptist. The Huskies climb to .500 as they now stand at 2-2 on the year.
 
Gardner-Webb will square off with VMI next Saturday, Sept. 16 at 2:00 PM. The match will take place in Lexington, Va.
