Runnin' Bulldogs Shutout Keydets 5-0

LEXINGTON, VA – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team claimed victory tonight as they shutout Virginia Military Institute 5-0. The Runnin' Bulldogs climb to 2-2-1 after their final match before Big South Conference play.
 
Oskar Wang opened the scoring for the Runnin' Bulldogs 23:02 minutes into the match as he scored his first goal of the season on the cross from Ismael Guerrero.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs offense remained in attack mode as they quickly added another goal at the 23:24 mark. Gardner-Webb's leading goal scorer, Magnus Moldjord notched the second goal of the match on a breakaway. Jack Hoey was credited with the assist.
 
Gardner-Webb's scoring efforts persisted as Isak Reinhardsen found the back of the net on a rebounded shot, securing a spot in the lower left corner just 29:31 into the match.
 
Roman Eddleman recorded his second goal of the season in the 71st minute on a header into the upper left corner of the net as Ismael Guerrero took the corner kick for the 'dawgs.
 
Severin Soerlie capped off the scoring the GWU in the 89th minute as he notched his third goal of the season on the assist from Mads Rismoen.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs offense exploded tonight for 24 shots, while 16 were on goal. Moldjord found himself busy during tonight's match as he managed to get off 7 shots, four of which were on goal. Severin Soerlie also had himself a busy night taking six shots, with four on goal.
 
VMI only managed to take six shots in the match, while one was on goal. The Keydets lone shot on goal came late in the match at the 78:52 mark off the foot of David Wright.
 
Gardner-Webb took five corner kicks in the match. VMI was limited to just one.
 
GWU goalkeeper Jacob Beyer notched his first shutout in goal for the 2017 season, while making one save. Two different goalkeepers saw action for VMI in the match. Jon Harrington made one save and allowed three goals against in 45:00 minutes of play. Robert Allen recorded nine saves while conceding two goals in 45:00 minutes of play.
 
Gardner-Webb will return to action Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 PM as they face off with Furman University in Greenville, SC. The Runnin' Bulldogs are set to begin conference play Tuesday, Sept. 26 in an away match versus Liberty.
