Pair of Early Goals Leads GWU Past PC, 2-1

CLINTON, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team claimed their first Big South victory of the season this afternoon as they defeated Presbyterian College by a score of 2-1.

The Runnin' Bulldogs notched the first goal of the match as Severin Soerlie secured a spot in the back of the net to give GWU the 1-0 lead just 05:13 into the first period. Isak Reinhardsen was credited with the assist.

Gardner-Webb continued their early scoring efforts as Magnus Moldjord found the back of the net on a penalty kick just four minutes later to put the 'Dawgs up 2-0.

Presbyterian capitalized on a scoring opportunity in the 66th minute as Clement Vannier scored on a penalty kick for his third goal of the season to bring the Blue Hose within one late in the match. However, Vannier's goal wouldn't be enough for PC.

The Runnin' Bulldogs were efficient on offense today as they put up 10 shots. Six different Runnin' Bulldogs accounted for seven shots on goal in the match. Severin Soerlie was the only Runnin' Bulldog with multiple (2) shots on goal.

Presbyterian recorded 21 shots, while just four were on goal. PC took eight corners in the match but was unable to capitalize on any. Gardner-Webb took just one corner kick in the match.

Gardner-Webb goalkeeper Jacob Beyer was credited with three saves between the posts this afternoon in 90 minutes of play. Presbyterian goalkeeper Connor Behrend tallied five saves while conceding two goals.
