January 16, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse
BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb women's lacrosse announced its 2018 team captains Tuesday in advance of the February 10 season opener at Wofford.
Senior Monique Martin (Tyngsborough, Mass.) and junior Colleen Conn (Moriches, N.Y.) will serve as the team captains for the Runnin' Bulldogs this season – which will be the fourth in program history.
"Monique and Colleen helped set the foundation for the future of our program and their leadership will be key in 2018 as captains," said head coach Jillian Krick. "Each of them has a strong work ethic and the respect of our younger players."
Martin missed the entire 2017 season with an injury, but was back at full strength during fall ball. She was a two-time All-Big South selection in her first two seasons with the team, collecting a school-record 108 ground balls combined in 2015 and 2016. Martin has also caused 60 career turnovers.
She was a member of Gardner-Webb's inaugural recruiting class.
Conn has started 33 games already heading into her junior season, and is one of the team's top performers. Last season she started 17 games and finished ranked second on the team with 31 ground balls and ranked third with 10 caused turnovers. Conn added three assists as well.
The Long Island native posted 16 starts as freshman and finished the season with 17 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will open the 2018 season on Saturday, February 11, at Wofford. Opening draw is set for 11:00 am in Gibbs Stadium.
