Stanford Named Second-Team All Conference, Runnin' Bulldogs Picked Eighth in Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Ky'Asia Stanford was named Second-Team All-Big South Conference, while the Runnin' Bulldogs were picked eighth in the conference's women's basketball preseason poll at the league's media day on Tuesday.

Stanford (Bear, Del. / Carver Academy) is the team's top returning scorer, scoring at a clip at 9.2 points per game last season. She also pulled down 2.6 rebounds per contest while dishing out 2.7 assists.

As a junior, she scored a career-high of 18 points, first vs. Winthrop on January 27, 2018. She tied her career-high less than 30 days later against Charleston Southern. She dished out a career-best eight assists in the season-opener against Pfeiffer on November 10.

Among Big South Conference players, she ranked seventh in assists per game and averaged 10.9 points per game in BSC action, which ranked in the top-15. She scored in double figures 12 times and had five straight conference games in double figures.

In the preseason poll, the Runnin' Bulldogs received 49 points, good enough for eighth place.

Radford (9 first-place votes) was picked as the preseason favorite with 116 total points, followed by High Point (2) with 109 points. Rounding out the top-five were UNC Asheville (100 points), Big South newcomer Hampton (89) and Campbell (81).

Charleston Southern (55) and Presbyterian (53) were the final two teams picked in front of Gardner-Webb.

Following Gardner-Webb (49) were the Big South's second new school for the 2018-19 season, USC Upstate (35), Longwood (32) and Winthrop (14).

Offensively, the Runnin' Bulldogs return a pair of starters – Stanford and Savannah Plentovich (Clearwater, Fla. / Calvary Christian). Carley Plentovich, was a key reserve during 2017-18 and started 11 games.

Five new faces are on Gardner-Webb's roster this year – Robyn Bouwer (Rotterdam, Netherlands / CTO Amsterdam) Jhessyka Williams (Augusta, Ga. / Laney HS), Mikayla Dyson (Lincolnton, N.C. / Lincolnton HS), Neydja Petithomme (Boca Raton, Fla. / University of Miami) and Anna Munoz-Vidueira (Hospitalet de IIobregat, Spain / Sant Josep Obrer)
