Gardner-Webb Softball Announces 2019 Schedule

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Head coach Tom Cole, who is set to begin his 19th season as the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs softball head coach, announced the team's 2019 schedule, which features 32 home games and four tournaments at Brinkley Stadium.
"We're very excited to play so many games on our home field," said Cole. "We're blessed to have an outstanding facility that teams want to come and play at. We certainly enjoy having that many home games."
Gardner-Webb will start the season with 10 consecutive home games, beginning with a four-team tournament from February 9-11, as George Washington, Georgetown and Furman will all travel to Boiling Springs. North Carolina A&T will travel to face the Runnin' Bulldogs for a midweek double-header before Gardner-Webb hosts the "Runnin' Bulldog Softball Tournament" from February 15-17. The 'Dogs will take on four schools – Loyola University Chicago, Sacred Heart, Oakland and Hartford – in the three-day event.
Cole and his staff will take the team to Western Carolina and South Carolina State for a mid-week doubleheaders on February 20 and 26 respectively. Sandwiched between those road trips is the "GWU Softball Tournament" (February 22-24), which features Bowling Green, ETSU, and Saint Francis (Pa).
When the calendar turns to March, Gardner-Webb will host its final tournament of the season, taking on Maryland Eastern Shore, Wright State, Mercer and South Carolina State from March 1-3. The 'Dogs will play on the road for much of March, traveling to Texas Tech for a three-day tournament (March 8-10) before closing out non-conference play with doubleheaders at Appalachian State (March 13) and North Carolina Central (March 20).
"All the non-conference teams that we play help us to prepare for the Big South schedule. We look forward to every chance to get better as we work towards conference play in late March."
The Runnin' Bulldogs will open conference play at Brinkley Stadium starting on March 22 when it hosts Radford for the first game of a three-game series.
After making the hour drive to Winthrop to end the month of March, Gardner-Webb will host back-to-back conference opponents in Campbell (April 2-3) and 2018 regular season runner-up Longwood (April 6-7). A midweek series at Big South newcomer USC Upstate is scheduled for April 10 and 11 before the Runnin' Bulldogs return home to Brinkley Stadium for its final home series of the season.
The 'Dogs will host Presbyterian College on Saturday, April 13. The team will honor its five seniors prior to the first game of the doubleheader. The third and final game will of the series will take place on Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m. To close out the regular season, Gardner-Webb will travel to Charleston Southern before finishing the year against another conference newcomer – the Hampton Pirates – April 27 and 28.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will take off the first week of May before heading to Radford University from May 8-11 for the Big South Conference tournament. The winner of the tournament will receive the Big South Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Tournament.
