December 12, 2018 | Softball
A member of the Cumberland Polytechnic High School softball team, McRae, a third baseman and outfielder, played for Sebrina Wilson and earned numerous individual accolades, while leading her team to a North Carolina 4A State Championship. Cumberland was the North Carolina Prep Team of the Year and earned the NC Farm Bureau Insurance Sportsmanship Award for the 2018 season. McRae earned All-Conference honors her sophomore season, while being named to the All-District team during both her sophomore and junior seasons. She played travel ball for coaches Dee Harris, Justin Womack, Kelly Freeman and JR Pone. At Gardner-Webb, she plans to major in biomedical sciences.
Stated Coach Tom Cole: "Jessica was found by Coach Long. He told me how talented she was as a 3rd baseman and as a hitter. He also spoke highly of her regarding her character, work ethic and desire. Everything he told me was true. She is exactly the type of person and player that we want in the program. She can hit, she has pop, and she can play both 3rd base and outfield."
