Talen Francis Named Big South Lacrosse Freshman of the Week Once Again

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb midfielder Talen Francis was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this month, as selected and announced by the league office Monday.
Francis (Kennesaw, Ga. / Kell HS) was strong in two starts for the Runnin' Bulldogs last weekend, combining to score nine goals and dish off one assist. She added 3.5 draw controls per game, 1.5 ground balls per game and 1.0 caused turnovers per game.
Francis was efficient throughout the week, shooting at a 75.0 percent clip and putting 91.7 percent of her 12 shots on cage.
She scored three goals vs. Cincinnati on Friday night, but was at her best Sunday afternoon in a dominant performance against East Carolina. Francis scored six goals and had one assist in that 15-14 overtime defeat.
Each of Francis' final three goals of the day tied the score vs. ECU and her assist to classmate Em Dyment with 1:58 left in regulation gave Gardner-Webb a 14-13 lead.
Francis has scored at least three goals in each of her first three collegiate games and leads Gardner-Webb with 12 goals so far this season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (1-2) will play the third game of a four-game home stand on Friday, March 2 vs. Mercer. First draw is set for 6:00 pm in Spangler Stadium (Big South Network).
