Prebble Earns Third Straight Freshman of the Week Honor
March 26, 2018 | Softball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the third time in as many weeks, Katie Prebble has been named the Big South Conference softball Freshman of the Week.
Prebble is one of only two Big South student-athletes to earn the Freshman of the Week honor multiple times. Prebble (4) and Sydney Backstrom (2) of Longwood have combined to take the honor six of seven weeks thus far.
Prebble also earned a Player of the Week award on February 19 and has received recognition from the conference office five times in seven weeks.
"We're blessed to have Katie as a part of our program," said head coach Tom Cole. "She's an outstanding young lady and ballplayer. We look forward to having her for three more years."
Last week, Prebble went 3-for-6 in a doubleheader against the Furman Paladins, with two of her hits being home runs.
In game one, she belted her 15th home run over the left field fence in the fifth inning, before doubling in her final plate appearance of the contest and batting in Katie Stettler.
She hit her 16th homer of the year – a two-RBI shot that once again landed over the fence in left field – in the top of the third inning of game two.
In the twin bill, she scored three runs, collected 10 total bases and had a slugging percentage of 1.667.
Among Big South Conference leaders, the Pomfret, Maryland native is ranked in a multitude of categories and leads the conference in: home runs (16), RBIs (50), total bases (97), slugging percentage (1.078) and RBIs per game (1.52).
Nationally, Prebble ranks second in home runs, trailing Seattle University's Madison Cathcart by a single homer. She also trails only Cathcart in total bases. The freshman first baseman is tied for the most RBIs in the country, sharing the lead with Tennessee's Meghan Gregg, but holds the sole lead in RBIs per game.
Prebble and the Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action this weekend, March 30-31, for a three-game series at Liberty. Game one between the 'Dogs and Flames is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, March 30, in Lynchburg, Va.
