CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb senior Jordan Smith has been named the Big South Conference Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for competition from April 12-15, as announced by the league office earlier today.
 
Smith (Chesterfield, Va.) has an outstanding weekend at the Charlotte Invitational, setting new personal records in the shot put, hammer throw, and discus.
 
Smith took home first-place finishes in the shot put and hammer throw, and finished second in the discus, but was the top collegiate finisher.
 
In the shot put, Smith finished with a mark of 17.22 meters, setting a new Gardner-Webb record for the event and ranks fifth on the Big South's all-time performance list.
 
Smith's discus throw of 50.22 meters leads all marks in the Big South this season by six meters.
 
In the hammer throw, Smith took home the title with a toss of 54.82 meters.
 
Gardner-Webb returns to action this weekend at the Duke Invitational, beginning Friday morning and lasting through Saturday afternoon.
