LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After a season that finds them in the Gardner-Webb record books and among the NCAA's statistical leaders,
Katie Prebble and
Andria Booth earned All-Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association today.
Prebble, a first baseman, was named to the Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, while Booth, an a right fielder, received Second-Team honors
Below are details on the duo and their 2018 accomplishments.
Katie Prebble – Mid-Atlantic Region First Team
Prebble, a Pomfret, Md. native capped off her stellar first season as a Runnin' Bulldog by breaking both Gardner-Webb and Big South Conference records.
She received six weekly honors from the conference – one Player of the Week honor and five Freshman of the Week awards.
Before the start of the Big South Conference tournament, Prebble was honored as the first player in conference history to be named both Player and Freshman of the Year.
After just one season in Boiling Springs, she finds herself second in career batting average (.436) and home runs (23). She is just four home runs away from becoming Gardner-Webb's all-time home runs leader with 27. Mandy Ward (2007-10) set the current record with 26.
Prebble broke the school's single-season home run record in March by hitting her then 13
th bomb. Less than one month later, she set the Big South Conference freshman home run record.
Prebble finds herself among the leaders in single-season records in ten different categories. She is the sole leader for the most RBIs, home runs, extra base hits and total bases in a single season, as well as highest slugging percentage.
Among Division I players, Prebble is second in RBIs and total bases, third in home runs, RBIs per game and slugging percentage and fourth in home runs per game.
Andria Booth – Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team
Booth, who transferred to GWU from Georgia Highlands College, set the Gardner-Webb softball record for highest batting average in a season, hitting .477 (94-for-197).
She also set the record for most hits in a season with 94. The junior outfielder recorded 10 extra base hits, including an inside the park home run.
On the base paths, Booth led the team by swiping 33 bases in 36 attempts (.917). She surpassed the previous record of most stolen bases in a season, which was set by Abbie Looper in 2007.
She earned First-Team All-Big South Conference honors for her efforts this season and was named the conference's Player of the Week on March 19.
Booth earned Player of the Week recognition by going 15-for-20 for games from March 12-18 and leading the 'Dogs to a perfect 5-0 record with wins against Presbyterian and North Carolina Central.
Against the Blue Hose alone, she was 9-for-12 with six RBIs, including a 4-for-5 mark with four runs batted in and a pair of runs scored in game two of the series.
In the Gardner-Webb record books, Booth is ranked in the top-10 in seven single-season categories.
This season, Booth leads all Division I athletes in hits and is third in batting average. She also ranks 21
st in on-base percentage (.514), 24
th in triples (five) and 30
th in stolen bases (33).
