Smith, Thornhill Wrap Up Season At NCAA East Region Prelims

TAMPA, Fla. – The 2018 outdoor track and field season wrapped up this weekend as Jordan Smith and Chase Thornhill competed at the 2018 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Round at the USF Track and Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
Thornhill competed in the men's 400-meter dash on Thursday afternoon, placing 41st overall with a time of 47.57 seconds.
Thornhill wrapped up a stellar freshman campaign in which he set the GWU record in the 400-meter dash at 46.82 seconds at the 2018 Big South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a second-place finish, earning Big South Men's Freshman of the Year honors.
Saturday afternoon in the men's shot put, Jordan Smith placed 35th overall with a toss of 17.17 meters.
Smith completed an outstanding senior season in which he set the school record in the shot put at 17.23 meters at the Mount Olive Final Qualifier and he was named the Men's Outstanding Field Performer at the 2018 Big South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where he was the conference champion in the hammer throw and discus throw, and had a second-place result in the shot put.
