Six Runnin' Bulldogs Named to NCCSIA All-State Teams

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – After a 29-29 campaign that saw the Gardner-Webb softball team finish fifth in the Big South Conference regular season standings, the Runnin' Bulldogs led all schools with six players named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State Softball first and second teams.
Katie Prebble, Andria Booth and Rachel Cumiskey received first team honors, while Maddi Johnson, Katie Stettler and Kaylee Wacaster were named to the second team.
Prebble (Pomfret, Md./ St. Marys Ryken) was named an NFCA Third-Team All-American and Fast Pitch News Second-Team All-American after a stellar freshman campaign. She was the first player in Big South Conference history to be named both Player and Freshman of the Year. Prebble ended the year among the top four players nationally in six statistical categories. Additionally, she set a Big South Conference freshman home run record with 22, which is the most in a single-season by a Runnin' Bulldog.
Booth (Dacula, Ga. / Georgia Highlands College) was a Big South Conference First-Team All-Conference team member and a Second-Team All-Mid Atlantic Region honoree. The junior outfielder hit .477 with 94 hits. She ranked first in the nation in hits and third in the country in batting average. For the season, she scored 50 runs and batted in 21 runs. Booth had one home run, an inside the park home run which came against North Carolina Central. She earned one Player of the Week honor, receiving the award for games played March 12-18. That week, Booth hit 15-for-20 with eight RBIs.
Cumiskey (Chesterfield, Va. / Clover Hill) ended her Gardner-Webb career as one of the most decorated players in program history. Her name is etched in the Gardner-Webb record book 14 times, including 11 times as it relates to career records. She appeared in 51 games during her final season in Boiling Springs and batted .272 with 37 hits. 14 of her hits went for extra bases and she batted in 31 runs and drew 18 walks. Over four years, appeared in 203 games and hit .275 with 56 extra base hits and 110 runs batted in.
Johnson (Gilbert, Ariz / Florida State College of Jacksonville) also finished her career in 2018. A Runnin' Bulldog for two seasons, she had the ninth most RBIs in a single season, recording 35 in 2018. She also drew 25 walks, which placed her 10th in the single-season walks category. As a senior, Johnson played in 51 contests with 45 starts and hit .271 with eight extra base hits. She had an on-base percentage of .389 to go along with a slugging percentage of .359. She finished her career with a .258 batting average and 44 runs batted in over 82 contests.
Stettler (Powhatan, Va. / Homeschool) appeared in 49 contests as a freshman and was named to the BSC All-Freshman team. Her . 306 batting average was fourth on the team and currently places her ninth in the career batting average category. Stettler had 45 hits in 147 at bats and batted in 22 runs while scoring 26. She hit her first collegiate home run in the first game of a three-game series against Charleston Southern, a contest that Gardner-Webb won by a 9-4 score.
Wacaster (Shleby, N.C., Crest HS) hit .341 (61-for-179) and was a Second-Team All-Big South Conference member. The Shelby, North Carolina native was second on the team with 47 runs batted in. She had two games with at least five RBIs (North Carolina A&T and Charleston Southern) and batted in season-high six runs in an 18-9 victory over the CSU Bucs. Wacaster had 24 extra base hits and joined Prebble and Booth as one of three Runnin' Bulldogs to collect 100 or more total bases. In the field, Wacaster led the team with a .988 fielding percentage and just one error. She was the only player to appear in all 58 contests this season. In the Gardner-Webb record book, she is in the top-10 in eight career categories as she enters her senior season.
