Gardner-Webb Women's Basketball to Open 2018-19 Season at Florida on November 6

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb women's basketball will begin its 2018-19 season on Tuesday, November 6 when the Runnin' Bulldogs travel to Gainesville, Florida to take on the Florida Gators of the Southeastern Conference.
The matchup between the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb and Gators of Florida will be the inaugural meeting between the two teams and will tip-off at 11 a.m. eastern time in Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
Patrolling the sidelines for Gardner-Webb is Alex Simmons, a first-year head coach who comes to GWU after spending time at Ole Miss from 2013-18. Simmons previously made stops at Middle Tennessee State and Kansas.
Simmons inherits a team that went 19-13 overall (8-10 Big South Conference) and advanced to the Big South Conference tournament as the No. 7 seed. Following a win against ninth-seeded Winthrop, the 'Dogs fell to No. 2 seed Radford in the quarterfinals.
Opposite Simmons will be the Gators' second-year head coach Cameron Newbauer. Newbauer arrived at Florida for the 2017-18 season after four seasons at the helm of the Belmont Bruins women's basketball program, which he led to two NCAA tournament appearances. Last season, Newbauer's Gators went 11-19 overall (3-13 Southeastern Conference) and fell to Ole Miss, 48-43, in the first round of the SEC tournament.
