Women's Basketball Announces Big South Schedule

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – In conjunction with the Big South Conference, head women's basketball coach Alex Simmons announced the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs' 2018-19 conference schedule today.
The Overview
Gardner-Webb will play 18 contests against conference opponents, beginning Tuesday, January 8 and concluding Saturday, March 9. The symmetry is perfect for the 'Dogs, with nine games taking place inside Paul Porter Arena, while nine will happen away from home. GWU will play eight teams twice, while playing UNC Asheville and Radford once.
Games 1-3
The Runnin' Bulldogs will begin their conference slate with a trip to Buies Creek, N.C. on Tuesday, January 8 to face off against the Campbell Fighting Camels. Campbell defeated Gardner-Webb in two meetings last season.
Gardner-Webb will play two more contests to close out its first week of conference play, with both taking place in Paul Porter Arena. UNC Asheville will visit Boiling Springs on Thursday, January 10, while High Point will make the drive to GWU on Saturday, January 12.
The Runnin' Bulldogs split with High Point last season, earning a 54-47 win at home but falling in overtime on the road, 83-80. The 'Dogs have met the Panthers on the hardwood 28 times, winning 11 contests.
Last season, Gardner-Webb was defeated twice by the Bulldogs of UNCA by a combined three points.
Games 4-5
The second week of Big South action features a road contest at Presbyterian on Tuesday, January 15, followed by a home game with the Winthrop Eagles on Saturday, January 18.
Gardner-Webb was a perfect 3-0 against Winthrop in 2017-18, including a 68-57 triumph in the Big South Conference Quarterfinals, The 'Dogs are seeking their eighth consecutive triumph over the Eagles as they have not lost to the Rock Hill-based school since December 5, 2015.
Games 6-7
Week three once again features a home-road split, as the Runnin' Bulldogs take on the new newest members of the Big South Conference.
Gardner-Webb will play its second straight home game on Tuesday, January 22 against the USC Upstate Spartans, and make the trip to Hampton, Virginia on Saturday, January 26 to play the Hampton Pirates.
Last season, Gardner-Webb topped USC Upstate, 60-39 in a non-conference match. The battle between the Runnin' Bulldogs and Pirates on the 25th of January will be the inaugural meeting between the two teams.
Games 8-9
Charleston Southern will visit Boiling Springs on Tuesday, January 29. The Runnin' Bulldogs defeated the Bucs, 68-52 in Boiling Springs last year. The two teams have met 20 times, with Gardner-Webb having won 13 contests against the Bucs.
Three days after the battle between the 'Dogs and Bucs, Gardner-Webb will make the trek to Farmville, Virginia to take on the Longwood Lancers. The matchup features a battle of two new head coaches – Simmons and Longwood head coach Rebecca Tillett.
Gardner-Webb was victorious in an Education Day contest at Longwood last season, with Savannah Plentovich being one of two Runnin' Bulldogs to score in double figures in the 61-54 win.
Games 10-11
The Runnin' Bulldogs will play their second straight road game in the state of Virginia on Tuesday, February 5 against Radford. After the matchup with the Highlanders, GWU will have played each conference opponent twice.
Gardner-Webb split with Radford in the last regular season last year, and fell 53-51 to the second-seeded Highlanders in the semifinals of the Big South Tournament.
On Saturday, February 9, the Runnin Bulldogs will play Longwood for the second Saturday in a row, but this time inside Paul Porter Arena.
Games 12-13
Gardner-Webb's second matchup of the year with Winthrop will take place on Tuesday, February 12 in Rock Hill, S.C. Three days later, Campbell, comes to Boiling Springs, with the contest set for Saturday, February 15.
Game 14-15
Gardner-Webb will host new Big South member Hampton on Tuesday, February 19, before traveling to High Point on Saturday, February 22.
Game 16
The Runnin' Bulldogs will play just one game during the week of February 25, as they travel to Charleston Southern on Tuesday the 26th. Gardner-Webb defeated CSU on its home court last season, 75-59.
Games 17-18
Gardner-Webb will begin the final week of Big South action by welcoming Presbyterian College to Boiling Springs on Tuesday, March 5. PC earned a 10-point win, 60-50, in Boiling Springs last year.
The final non-conference game will take place in Spartanburg, S.C. against the USC Upstate Spartans on Saturday, March 9.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Big South Conference Tournament will begin on Tuesday, March 12 and conclude on Sunday, March 17.
